George in '64

dragonfly (coming 9/30/26)

George in '64

I feel like George in 1964. I feel like George in ’64. You like me too much and I like you. If I needed someone it’d be you. It’s all too much, it’s been a long, long time. You like me too much I don’t like you. My head is filled with things to say. But these words seem to slip away. This game is dragging me down. Put away your thoughtless frown. You like me too much; I don’t like you. I feel like George in 1964. This quiet guy wants something more. John and Paul are writing up a score, I feel like George in ‘64. I’m stepping out this old brown shoe. Life flows on but without you. Our love has gone so cold, my songs are bold. You like me too much; I don’t like you. Something in the way that this went down. Couldn’t hide my thoughts this time around. No more dickin’ around, no more changing my sound. You like me too much I don’t like you. This quiet guy is breaking through. Jasmine still looks good, it’s true. Do what you wanna do. And go where you’re going to. You like me too much I don’t like you. I feel like George in 1964. This quiet guy wants something more. John and Paul are writing up a score, I feel like George in ‘64.

Cold war town

George in '64

I grew up in a Cold War Town, radar in the sky, rockets in the ground. I didn’t know about cold war issues, air raid whistles, or Nike missiles. School drills, iodine pills, shelter in the hall, up against the wall. Nike bases, space races, bombs in the hills and everyday places. I hope the world is better someday. There’s fighting in the sand, fighting over land, suicide drones, no-fly zones. Weapons in space, nuclear waste, shelter in place and still an arms race. School drills, iodine pills, shelter in the hall, up against the wall. Nike bases, space races, bombs in the hills and everyday places. I hope that things get better someday. Stubborn old men, wars that never end, names I can’t pronounce, daily body counts. Overnight strikes, threats on sound bites, new retaliation, fears of escalation. The more things change, the more they remain. Roses still bloom and clouds bring rain. Weeds are gonna grow with new ways to kill them. Waters gonna flow with the same old rhythm. School drills, iodine pills, shelter in the hall, up against the wall. Nike bases, space races, bombs in the hills and everyday places. I hope that things get better someday. I hope the world is better someday.

I don’t hide my steps, but I’ve got regrets. Wish I still owned, his red silvertone. On it, he played rhythm. Girls all wanted to be with him. We were all jealous. Of the tales he would tell us. My brother was my best friend. My brother was my best friend. He could be a dragon. When off his med wagon. Or harmless as a fly. Quiet smirk, those blue eyes. My brother was my best friend. My brother was my best friend. (middle section) I didn’t see the signs. Or read between the lines. I wish they had told me. Or said boldly. Not much time now. Better stick around now. Time to say goodbye now. Don’t leave now, but I did. I saw a Dragonfly. On the day my brother died. Somewhat out of place. It lingered near my face. My brother was my best friend. My brother was my best friend.

References to George's beatle lyrics in my song "George in '64"

  • The song contains many references to lyrics written by George Harrison.  The title refers to how he must have felt in 1964...I'm taking some artistic license projecting and assimilating his thoughts.
  • You like me too much and I like you was one of his first Beatle songs.  I use that line here, but more important, I use a derivative of that line when I say, You like me too much, I DON'T like you.
  • Second line:  If I needed someone refers to his song by the same name from Rubber Soul
  • Third line:  It's all too much refers to his song by the same name from the Yellow Submarine album.
  • Forth line:  You like me too much, I DON'T like you.  enough said.
  • Fifth line:  My head is filled with things to say.  It's a lyric from George's song "I Want To Tell You" off of Revolver.
  • Sixth line:  "seem to slip away" is also from George's song "I Want To Tell You"
  • Put away your thoughtless frown is taken from George's song "Old Brown Shoe" where he says:  'Replacing every thoughtless frown'.
  • I'm stepping out This Old Brown Shoe.  One of George's most underrated songs that was the B side to 'The Ballad of John and Yoko'.
  • Life flows on but without you:  It's a reference to George's song from Sgt. Pepper, 'Within You Without You'.  The actual lyric in his song is " And life flows on within you and without you".
  • So cold: is a reference to lyrics from 'Here Comes the Sun" from Abbey Road.
  • Something is the way this went down is a reference to George's song 'Something', the second song of side one.
  • Jasmine still looks good refers to George's line in "Think For Yourself" off of Rubber Soul where he sings:  The future still looks good.
  • Do what you want to do and go where you're going to, is lifted directly from "Think For Yourself"...another one of George's underrated songs.
